The village of Calon owes its name to a small boat once used to carry timber from one bank of the Gironde to the other. In the 18th century, the estate belonged to Nicolas Alexandre de S\u00e9gur, whose attachment to the property inspired the famous heart that now appears on the label. The production area covers 45 hectares within the Saint-Est\u00e8phe appellation, on thick gravel soils. The grape varieties are the four classic varieties of the M\u00e9doc: Cabernet Sauvignon (the majority), Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. On tasting, the wines of Calon S\u00e9gur stand out for their aromatic intensity and structure. The bouquet evokes notes of leather, black fruit and undergrowth.
