It was divided in 1850 on the death of Baron Joseph, his three daughters receiving 3\/5 of the estate and his two sons 2\/5. One of the daughters, Virginie de Pichon Longueville, the future Comtesse de Lalande, gave her name to the ch\u00e2teau. A passionate woman and wine lover, she left a profound mark on the history of the estate. Her work was rewarded in 1855 when the estate was raised to the rank of Second Grand Cru Class\u00e9. In 1925, Louis and \u00c9douard Miailhe acquired the property. May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, \u00c9douard\u2019s daughter, inherited it in 1978. She restored to the ch\u00e2teau the spirit of the Comtesse de Lalande, sharing her love of the land and of wine. In three centuries, only two families have built the renown of the ch\u00e2teau and its wines. In 2007, the estate joined the Champagne house Louis Roederer, run by the Rouzaud family, which has given it new impetus. Located in the Pauillac appellation, the vineyard of Ch\u00e2teau Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande shines on Bordeaux\u2019s Left Bank and extends over a terroir of great singularity. The vines grow on gravel ridges typical of the M\u00e9doc, over clay-sand subsoils. This soil, combining gravel and clay, shapes the personality of the estate\u2019s wines. Over the vintages, Ch\u00e2teau Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande has established itself as one of the great signatures of Pauillac. Its wines stand out for their balance between power and elegance, their refined texture and their aromatic depth.
