The particular nature of the soils at Ch\u00e2teau Canon La Gaffeli\u00e8re plays an essential role. These clay-limestone and clay-sand soils, which are very free-draining, are particularly receptive to heat. Because of the nature of the soils, the grape varieties also show an unusual make-up for a Right Bank cru, defined by a perfect balance between Merlot and Cabernet.
