Having taken over the cru in 1922, he restored its prestige by modernising it (notably by building the famous \u201cgrand chai\u201d), work which culminated in 1973 in the revision of the 1855 classification and Mouton\u2019s elevation to the rank of 1<sup>er<\/sup> \u00a0cru class\u00e9. Baron Philippe also played an important role in the history of wine, as one of the first to practise ch\u00e2teau-bottling, from 1926, and by commissioning artists to illustrate his labels. From 1988, his daughter Philippine, who died in 2014, continued his work. She was succeeded by her son, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild.
