The estate passed into the hands of Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1950; it was his first vineyard acquisition, at a time when he was helping to win recognition for the great terroirs of the Libournais. The vineyard covers around 18.7 hectares, at an altitude of between 33 and 38 metres. Its soils combine ancient gravel and clay, in proportions that vary from one plot to another. This diversity is a key to the wine\u2019s character: the gravel brings energy and finesse, the clay more density and velvety texture. Oak ageing is carried out with restraint.
