Critics’ scores and tasting notes
“Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Léoville Barton charges out of the gate with bold notions of baked plums, crème de cassis and blueberry preserves plus wafts of pencil shavings, fragrant earth and cedar chest. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-coating black fruit preserves with compelling herbal sparks and a firm, grainy texture, finishing long and lively.”
Located in the heart of the Saint-Julien terroir, Château Léoville Barton has overlooked its natural surroundings since it was built in 1758. Its French-style gardens and typically English parks inspire serenity and tranquillity. It was after the French Revolution that Hugh Barton, an Irish négociant in Bordeaux wines, bought his first vines in the Médoc. Château Léoville Barton has the immense privilege of owning one of the finest ridges of Garonne gravel, to which it owes its fabulous wines. Drawing on its know-how, Château Léoville Barton has opted for an ecological approach with no weeding or herbicides.
