Critics’ scores and tasting notes

“Intense aromas of sweet tobacco, dark cedar, cigar humidor, mushroom, roses, and wet earth follow through to a medium to full body with firm, velvety tannins and a driven, intense finish. Very structured with bones. Reminds me of Lafite from the 1980s. Unique for the vintage. 12.5% alcohol. A blend of 94% cabernet sauvignon, 5% merlot and 1% petit verdot.”

The Estate

An absolute symbol of Bordeaux excellence, Château Lafite Rothschild has embodied the sovereign elegance of the great wines of Pauillac for centuries. Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855, Lafite stands out not only for its rank but also for a unique signature of finesse, depth and harmony. The vineyard covers 112 hectares of exceptional terroir in the north of the Pauillac appellation. The vines mainly occupy the gravel ridges surrounding the château, the Carruades plateau to the west and a plot in the neighbouring commune of Saint-Estèphe. These deep, fine gravel soils, mixed with windblown sands and resting on a limestone bedrock, offer remarkable natural drainage and an ideal exposure. This rare combination gives the wines their aromatic precision, freshness and exceptional ageing potential. Mostly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the vineyard produces wines with a remarkable architecture. The tannic structure is dense but infinitely refined; the bouquet develops subtle nuances of graphite, cedar, spices and delicately ripe black fruits over time. Each vintage expresses a masterful balance between contained power and natural grace. Owned by the Rothschild family since the 19th century, the estate upholds a demanding vision in which plot-by-plot selection, precision viticulture and the pursuit of quality are taken to the highest level. More than a wine, Lafite is a timeless reference, sought after worldwide for its consistency, nobility and ability to stand the test of time with distinction.
