The Estate

The history of Château Lascombes is part of that of the great estates of Margaux, where it has been one of the Deuxièmes Crus Classés since 1855. A new chapter opened in 2022 with the arrival of the Lawrence family, followed by Axel Heinz taking over as director. This change led to refocusing the grand vin on the historic plots on which its reputation had been built. These Margaux soils combine gravelly sectors suited to Cabernet Sauvignon with other soil nuances that contribute to the diversity of the blends. Plot selection has become decisive: the grand vin now favours a more classic Médoc expression, while the estate’s other sectors may contribute to separate cuvées. The grapes are harvested by hand, in several passes according to ripeness, with rigorous sorting. Vinification relies on measured extraction, close to infusion, in order to preserve the clarity of the fruit and the finesse of the wine’s substance. Ageing is adjusted lot by lot, mainly in barrels, with a place for large oak casks (foudres) and amphorae. The style sought combines the foundation of Cabernet Sauvignon, depth of fruit and polished tannins. Lascombes thus asserts an interpretation of Margaux that favours balance, precision and power without heaviness. This recent direction should be distinguished from that of older vintages.
