“Aromas of ripe black cherries, mulberries and touches of iodine and violet extract. Full-bodied, flavorful and structured but finely etched, with fine tannins, good acidity and a long, Fine finish. 58% merlot and 42% cabernet franc. Better from 2027.”
The Estate
Rich in history, Château La Gaffelière has belonged to the Malet Roquefort family since 1705. It stands as an outpost at the southern entrance to Saint-Émilion, between the hills of Ausone and Pavie. Here, time is counted not in years but in centuries: the remains of a Gallo-Roman villa said to have belonged to the poet Ausone have been found on the site. The Malet Roquefort family (today Count Léo de Malet Roquefort) has been established here since the 17th century. Its 22 ha clay-limestone vineyard, in a single block, is planted with Merlot (65%) and Cabernet Franc (35%).
