Critics’ scores and tasting notes
“Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Château La Fleur-Petrus has a fragrant, crushed rose petal bouquet mixed with raspberry coulis and wild strawberry scents, the oak beautifully assimilated and demonstrating fine precision. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well-judged acidity, bright blueberry and black plum notes mixed with cedar and minerals towards the finish. This is turning into a très bon vin! Tasted January 2016.”
Located on the Pomerol plateau, Château La Fleur-Pétrus takes its name from two old lieux-dits (named plots), La Fleur and Pétrus. The estate passed into the hands of Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1950; it was his first vineyard acquisition, at a time when he was helping to win recognition for the great terroirs of the Libournais. The vineyard covers around 18.7 hectares, at an altitude of between 33 and 38 metres. Its soils combine ancient gravel and clay, in proportions that vary from one plot to another. This diversity is a key to the wine’s character: the gravel brings energy and finesse, the clay more density and velvety texture. Oak ageing is carried out with restraint. La Fleur-Pétrus combines ample substance with a refined expression, in which the richness of the Merlot masks neither the precision of the fruit nor the floral nuances.
