Critics’ scores and tasting notes
“A very bright wine with beautiful balance and freshness. Violets, raspberries and currants on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied with clarity and fine, integrated tannins. Hints of flint and graphite at the end. One of the best Carbonnieux in a long time. 45% merlot, 45% cabernet sauvignon, 5% cabernet franc and 5% petit verdot.”
In 1956 Marc Perrin, with the help of his son, decided to expand the vineyard. This is how the wine estate grew from 45 hectares in 1970 to 70 hectares in 1980, reaching almost 95 hectares today. It is Christine, Eric and Philibert Perrin who have taken up the torch, following in the footsteps of their father Antony. The terroir of Château Carbonnieux is remarkable for the diversity of its soils. Château Carbonnieux Blanc, Grand Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan: in their youth, the whites captivate with their purity and aromatic intensity. As they age, candied notes appear, allowing for very diverse food and wine pairings. Château Carbonnieux red, Grand Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan: the reds are in the Bordeaux tradition. Always harmonious, with balanced tannins and precise fruit.
