2006 is a classic vintage. It has a beautiful clear and bright colour. Today, it develops aromas of blackcurrant leaves, cherry and liquorice. The palate is opulent with volume and fine tannins. A long and aromatic finish.
Château Ferrière joined the Merlaut family at the end of the 1980s. Bernadette Merlaut-Villars undertook its revival; her daughter Claire Villars-Lurton continued this work, gradually moving the vineyard towards organic and then biodynamic viticulture. The estate’s 24 hectares lie in the heart of Margaux, on deep gravel over limestone marl. A significant proportion of the vines dates back to the early 1950s. This old vine heritage, comprising Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, is also preserved through massal selection. Certified organic in 2015 and then biodynamic in 2018, Ferrière applies this approach from vineyard to cellar. Fermentations rely on naturally occurring yeasts, and extraction is deliberately moderate. Ageing combines barrels and egg-shaped vats in raw concrete, so as not to impose a uniform oak imprint on the different lots. The wines of Château Ferrière show a lively expression of fruit, a precise texture and mineral freshness. The concentration unfolds without excess, carried by fine tannins and a lingering finish. This identity reflects the choice of measured intervention and the character of the Margaux soils.
