Critics’ scores and tasting notes
“A solid red, structured and textured, showing cherries and baking spices on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied with sinewy tannins. Crunchy at the center, with a flavorful, vivid and persistent finish.”
Château Gloria is the result of a gradual construction initiated at the end of the 1930s. At that time, Henri Martin acquired a first plot of one hectare, the starting point of a project that he would develop throughout his life. Originally from Saint-Julien-Beychevelle, where he was born in 1903, Henri Martin grew up in an environment deeply rooted in wine culture. From an early age, he became familiar with the work of the vine and nurtured the ambition to create his own estate in the heart of this appellation. Over the years, he patiently gathered plots, most of them from 1855 crus classés. This rigorous selection allowed him gradually to build a coherent vineyard of nearly 50 hectares. From this work came Château Gloria, which stands out as the largest unclassified estate in Saint-Julien. The success of the estate’s wines enabled Henri Martin to continue expanding, notably with the acquisition, in 1981, of Château Saint-Pierre in his home village. The vineyard is based on a diversity of soils and locations, offering a set of complementary terroirs. This richness is an essential element of the balance and regularity of the wines produced. The grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wines are characterised by their harmony, their silky texture and their structure, fully expressing the character of Saint-Julien. The estate obtained organic certification starting with the 2024 vintage.
