The 2006 vintage produced wines with a fine structure, thanks in part to the quality of the Cabernet Sauvignon. These wines recall the 2004s in the classicism of their balance.
Today, its nose is very aromatic, fruity and spicy. The palate, with a beautiful structure, presents fine tannins, a lively acidity and a very seductive saline finish.
The name Château Haut-Bages Libéral combines the Bages plateau with the name of the Libéral family, who developed the estate in the 18th century. The land assembled south of Pauillac led to its recognition as a Grand Cru Classé en 1855. Claire Villars-Lurton later took over the running of this family estate and undertook in-depth work on the relationship between the vines and their environment. The vineyard covers around 30 hectares in two blocks. One part lies on the deep gravel of the Bages plateau; the other runs along the Gironde estuary, near Château Latour, on more clay-limestone formations. This distribution gives the estate complementary soils and contributes to the singularity of its expression. Since 2007, agroecology and biodynamic practices have played a growing role in the management of the plots. The estate has been certified organic since the 2019 vintage and also holds Demeter biodynamic certification. The pursuit of active soil life goes hand in hand with work aimed at better expressing the characteristics of each sector of the vineyard. Haut-Bages Libéral offers a Pauillac profile in which the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon comes with a sense of freshness and a mineral dimension. The substance aims to be precise rather than massive, with a tension that lengthens the wine and underlines the diversity of its plot origins.
