“Well composed, structured and nicely framed, with a medium to full body and fine, firm tannins. Textural and slightly chalky on the palate. Solid and focused, with a long, driven finish. A elegant, refine and holistic wine. The shows depth structre and finesse. 65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 3% cabernet franc, and 2% petit verot.”

The Estate

Located in the heart of Saint-Estèphe, Château Phélan Ségur has dominated the Gironde estuary since the 19th century. Established by Bernard Phélan and developed by his son Frank, the estate took its current name at the beginning of the 20th century. The architecture of the site is notable for housing the barrel cellar and the vat room within the château itself, giving the whole both a technical and a heritage identity. Today, the estate covers 114 hectares, a large part of which is given over to natural areas (parkland, woods, meadows and ponds) forming a balanced ecosystem. The 70 hectares of vines, divided into several blocks, benefit from the proximity of the Gironde, which tempers the climate. They lie on gravel soils mixed with clay, reflecting a geological diversity that is essential to the expression of the wine. Vineyard management respects natural balances: adapted planting densities, row layout to limit climatic extremes, tillage and cover crops to preserve soil structure, and the selection of suitable rootstocks. Vinification is carried out plot by plot, using the yeasts naturally present on the grapes. This precise work reveals the specific characteristics of each terroir. The wines stand out for their balanced structure, combining intensity, freshness and finesse, with an ability to evolve that suits both early drinking and long ageing. Today, the estate continues to develop in a constant pursuit of precision and consistency, driven by a committed team and a vision that combines technical rigour with respect for the environment.
