Critics’ scores and tasting notes
“Focused, dense and creamy with berries and chocolate on the nose. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins. Chalky, with crunchy berries and a flavorful finish.”
Château Talbot owes its name to the English Constable John Talbot, defeated at the Battle of Castillon in 1453. Classified Quatrième Grand Cru Classé in 1855, it was acquired in 1918 by the Cordier family, whose descendants still run the estate today. This family continuity goes hand in hand with one of the largest estates in Saint-Julien. The vineyard forms a vast expanse around the château, not far from the Gironde estuary. The Médoc gravel ridges, over a clay base, provide natural drainage and promote the ripening of the grapes. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the red grape varieties, alongside Merlot and Petit Verdot. Barrel ageing refines the tannins while preserving the balance of the fruit. Château Talbot expresses a Saint-Julien that is both generous and harmonious, marked by a supple texture, sustained aromatic presence and a recognised ability to age. Its personality lies in the combination of a classic Médoc structure with an accessibility that can show from the very first years.
