“This is more exotic and monstrous than the 2000. It is like a muscle builder, with lots of round and rich tannins and a core of dark fruits like black cherries and blueberries. Still very young, but structured and in need of five more years. Don’t touch this until 2015.”
The Estate
Domaine de Léoville, one of the oldest vineyards in the Médoc. The present-day terroir of the Grand Vin dates back to the 17th century. The gateway, emblem of the Estate, opens onto a clos of around 55 ha enclosed by a stone wall, which marks out its terroir and stretches from the village of Saint-Julien to Château Latour. It is within this clos that the Grand Vin de Léoville du Marquis de Las Cases is produced. Since the end of the 19th century, Léoville las Cases has been run by the same family, currently represented by Mr Jean-Hubert Delon, the sole owner.
