Critics’ scores and tasting notes
“Blackberries, black truffles and hints of cedar, bark and graphite on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied with creamy, polished tannins and a long and flavorful finish. This is tight and well formed, with poised strength. Give it until 2030 to show its magic.”
Located on the Pomerol plateau, Château La Fleur-Pétrus takes its name from two old lieux-dits (named plots), La Fleur and Pétrus. The estate passed into the hands of Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1950; it was his first vineyard acquisition, at a time when he was helping to win recognition for the great terroirs of the Libournais. The vineyard covers around 18.7 hectares, at an altitude of between 33 and 38 metres. Its soils combine ancient gravel and clay, in proportions that vary from one plot to another. This diversity is a key to the wine’s character: the gravel brings energy and finesse, the clay more density and velvety texture. Oak ageing is carried out with restraint. La Fleur-Pétrus combines ample substance with a refined expression, in which the richness of the Merlot masks neither the precision of the fruit nor the floral nuances.
