Château Soutard 2025

Critics’ scores and tasting notes

Robert Parker Wine AdvocateRP 93-95

“Another superb effort, the 2025 Soutard appears to rival the 2023 and 2022 rendition for the title of the finest wine this estate has produced to date. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berries, cherries and plums mingled with hints of rose and iris, it's medium- to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with lovely purity, refined tannins and a long, penetrating finish.”

The Estate

Château Soutard is one of the major historic estates of Saint-Émilion. Its origins date back to the late 17th century, when Jean Coutures acquired the estate in 1699. Built between 1741 and 1762, the château stands out for its rigorous 18th-century architecture, characterised by simple lines, a balanced façade and natural elegance. Over the years, several families have marked the history of Château Soutard, notably Jean Laveau in the 19th century, who greatly developed the estate and contributed to its reputation. The management of the estate then remained in family hands for several generations, ensuring the continuity of its identity. In 2006, AG2R La Mondiale became the owner of the château and embarked on a new phase of development. The vineyard now covers 27 hectares in a single block on the clay-limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. In 2009, the integration of Château Cadet-Piola enlarged the estate’s vineyard holdings to 60 hectares. The Soutard terroir is based on clay-limestone soils. This type of soil favours a regular water supply and gives the wines structure and balance. The vineyard is dominated by Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc, as well as smaller proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. This blend reflects the identity of the fine wines of Saint-Émilion. The style of Château Soutard is characterised by an authentic expression of the terroir, combining density, freshness and precision. The wines offer great depth, elegant structure and remarkable ageing potential.
