“This is juicy and incisive, with expressive dark fruit and fine-grained, almost grainy tannins. A savory quality in the long finish. Persistent and cohesive.”

The Estate

4ème Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Julien, the Château Talbot vineyard extends over 110 hectares in a single block within the Saint-Julien appellation. Located on the edge of the Gironde estuary, on alluvial gravel ridges, the terroir of Château Talbot is exceptional. The cru bears the name of Constable John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury. In 1855, in the classification of the crus of the Médoc and Graves, Château Talbot was promoted to quatrième Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Julien. The estate was acquired in 1918 by the Cordier family. Today, the estate is run by an experienced team, with Jean-Michel Laporte as general manager, Damien Hostein in charge of the vineyard and Jean-Max Drouilhet in charge of wine production.
The vineyard lies on deep, free-draining gravel, with a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and Petit Verdot. The wines are renowned for their elegance, velvety texture and silky tannins. The large cellar, completed in 2013, allows precise ageing of the wines, for up to 16 months in barrels, under perfectly controlled conditions. Château Talbot stands out for its classic and balanced style, with a beautiful structure, great finesse and remarkable ageing potential. Connétable de Talbot, the second wine of Château Talbot, is one of the very first second wines of the Médoc. Created in the 1970s, it has benefited over the years from all the care given to the vineyard and from increasingly rigorous selection. Like its older brother, it is a classic and elegant wine, marked by a clean, well-defined structure and a long, fresh finish.
