Critics’ scores and tasting notes

James Sucklingjamessuckling.comJS 97-98

“Such a balanced and harmonious red with control, texture and length. It has aromas of red berries, cedar, pebbles and baking spices. Medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Velvety and attractive, with a long, flavorful, precise finish. A blend of 64% cabernet sauvignon, 31% merlot and 5% cabernet franc.”

The Estate

Classified Troisième Grand Cru in 1855, Château Giscours has established itself as one of the leading references of the Margaux appellation. Its history, marked by visionary figures and periods of renewal, reflects a continuity of rigour and precision, carried forward today by the Albada Jelgersma family. The estate stands out for its exceptional environment, at the heart of a vast whole combining park, forest and vineyard, offering a unique setting for the expression of its wines. This natural and architectural heritage contributes to the singular identity of the estate. The vineyard lies on a remarkable terroir of deep gravel of Garonne origin, arranged in gravel ridges. These free-draining soils allow the Cabernet Sauvignon to express itself with finesse and intensity, while bringing structure and complexity to the blends. With around 95 hectares in production, the vineyard is farmed with a precise plot-by-plot approach. Vinification is carried out with rigour, combining manual and optical sorting, followed by controlled extraction in concrete and stainless steel vats. Ageing in French oak barrels, a proportion of them new, reveals the fine grain of the tannins and the aromatic depth of the wines. The style of Château Giscours is characterised by great elegance and deep aromatic expression. The wines combine structure, freshness and complexity, offering a faithful reading of the Margaux terroir and remarkable ageing potential.
