Critics’ scores and tasting notes
“A cool and salty wine with blackberries, black olives, crushed stone. Medium to full body with a crunchy and layered palate and a minerally and salient character. You can feel the limestone here. Supple at the end. From organically grown grapes. A blend of 70% merlot and 30% cabernet franc.”
La Mondotte, whose origins date back to the 19th century, has been certified organic since 2014. Located to the east of Saint-Émilion, this tiny vineyard covers 4.5 hectares on a clay-limestone plateau in a particularly fine setting. The soils, composed of silty clays resting on a rocky substrate, ensure excellent water regulation and promote the deep rooting of the vines. The natural drainage, combined with optimal sunlight, allows even ripening of the grapes, particularly the Merlot. The vineyard, whose average age is approximately 60 years, is planted with 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. This combination, in harmony with the nature of the soil, gives rise to a wine deeply marked by its terroir, combining structure, silky texture and mineral expression. The grapes are harvested by hand into small crates, with a double sorting before and after destemming. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled wooden vats, with extraction adapted to each vintage. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in new barrels, followed by ageing of approximately 18 months.
