“Darker toasty oak and dark fruits with red hues too. Very smoothly executed meaty barrel fermented aromas here with ripe cassis and cherry fruit flavors. The tannins are nicely articulated, layered and smooth, rising nicely through the finish with a velvety fine texture. -NS”

The Estate

In the 1855 classification, Château Haut-Brion was distinguished as a Premier Grand Cru Classé, becoming the only representative of the Graves appellation among the greatest grands crus of Bordeaux. This recognition was confirmed in 1959 in the official classification of Graves wines. Since 1935, the estate has belonged to the Clarence Dillon group. It is now chaired by Prince Robert of Luxembourg, a descendant of the founder. Located in the commune of Pessac, within the Bordeaux conurbation, the vineyard of Château Haut-Brion enjoys a particularly singular terroir. The estate covers around 51 hectares in a single block. It lies on two large ridges of Quaternary Günzian gravel, rich in quartz and framed by two streams. On this land, 48 hectares are devoted to the red varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, while 3 hectares are planted with Sémillon and Sauvignon for the whites. The average age of the vines is around forty years. The wines stand out for their elegance and the exceptional finesse of their tannins. Tasting them reveals a remarkable balance and is a particularly memorable experience for lovers of fine wine.
