Critics’ scores and tasting notes
“Extremely floral and perfumed, with red fruit aromas that follow through to a medium body with fine and integrated tannins and a creamy texture. Pretty and seductive for this estate. Precise. 69% merlot, 28% cabernet sauvignon, 2% petit verdot, and 1% cabernet franc. Best La Tour Carnet in years.”
The first harvest at Château La Tour Carnet took place in 1409. Located near Bordeaux, the estate is part of the history of the Grands Crus Classés of the Médoc. The Revolution of 1789 spared the estate, then owned by Jérôme de Luetkens. His descendants helped develop the estate’s potential, leading to its classification in 1855 as a 4ème Grand Cru Classé. In 2000, Bernard Magrez acquired the château. He undertook the restoration of the estate, the restructuring of the vineyard and the modernisation of the production facilities, paying particular attention to adapting the grape varieties and redesigning the cellar. Vinification involves an initial sorting in the vineyard, followed by hand sorting on a vibrating table, destemming, density sorting and cooling of the harvest in a cryogenic tunnel. The vats are filled by gravity. Vinification takes place in small wooden and concrete vats, with a cold pre-fermentation maceration at 8°C, manual pigeage and alcoholic fermentation at 28°C. Maceration lasts 25 to 32 days. The wine is aged in barrels for 16 months, 30% of them new. The vineyard is planted with 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon.
