Lacoste-Borie 2025

Critics’ scores and tasting notes

Robert Parker Wine AdvocateRP 91-93

“The 2025 Lacoste-Borie, a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, planted at a lower density of 7,000 vines per hectare (versus 9,000 for Grand-Puy-Lacoste), is now more clearly defined and no longer conceived simply as a second wine. It reveals a gourmand, fresh bouquet of red berries, followed by a medium-bodied, juicy and elegant palate framed by fresh, velvety tannins and concluding with a long, ethereal and fruity finish. This is a refined and very appealing wine.”

The Estate

Lacoste-Borie is a cuvée from the Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste estate, made from plots lying to the west of the estate’s park. These vines, brought back into cultivation from the late 1970s, came into production in the early 1980s and are now fully mature. The vineyard is planted on gravel soils mixed with fine sand, at a density of 7,000 vines per hectare. Vineyard management follows an approach that respects the natural balance, with cover crops, tree planting and winter grazing. The plot selection is now precisely defined. A gravity-fed vat room equipped with small vats allows each lot to be vinified separately, so as to read the terroir in fine detail. The grapes are harvested by hand. Vinification involves moderate extraction, with macerations adjusted plot by plot. The wine is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels. The blend combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the latter contributing to the freshness and balance of the wine. Originally conceived as a selection from the estate, Lacoste-Borie has gradually established itself as a cuvée in its own right, with its own style and a distinct expression of Pauillac, marked by precise fruit, supple structure and fine tannins. The name combines that of the former owner, Lacoste, with that of the Borie family, marking the continuity between the history of the estate and its evolution.
